Kitui County, Kenya: In a momentous event that drew thousands of attendees, Kitui High School officially launched its 2023-2028 Strategic Plan on Saturday, July 12, 2025, marking a new chapter in the institution’s storied legacy. The ceremony, held under the uplifting theme “We Serve a Mighty God,” doubled as the school’s Prize Giving Day and Annual General Meeting, creating a vibrant atmosphere of celebration and forward-looking optimism.
Presiding over the event as the chief guest, Kenya’s Secondary Education Director, Dr. William K. Sugut, hailed the strategic plan as a “guiding mirror” for the school’s growth over the next five years.

“Today, we lay the foundation for excellence,” declared Dr. Sugut. “This plan is not just a document—it’s a roadmap that will steer Kitui High School toward greater heights.”
He praised the school’s leadership, particularly Principal Bernard M. Mutua, for his resilience and passion, noting: “A school is only as strong as its leaders, and Kitui is blessed with a principal who not only serves but prays for its success. That is why this institution stands out as ‘the school to be.’’
Celebrating Excellence
The event also honored the Class of 2024 for their outstanding academic achievements. Dr. Sugut commended the students, teachers, and parents for their dedication and sacrifice, emphasizing that “performance is born from commitment.”
Addressing the educators, he delivered a powerful message: “Teaching is the only profession that co-creates with God. Every lesson you impart leaves an eternal mark—so teach as if you may never teach again.”
Principal Bernard Mutua expressed deep appreciation for the parents’ unwavering support, calling them “the backbone of the school’s success.” He also recognized Dr. Hassan Khalif, Kitui County Education Director, for his exceptional leadership and relentless advocacy for education.
“Dr. Khalif’s love for this school is unmatched,” Mutua remarked. “His support has been instrumental in our progress.”
In his speech, Dr. Khalif reaffirmed Kitui High School’s role in putting the county on the national map. He also addressed pressing societal challenges, including drug abuse and teen pregnancies, but assured the public that Kitui County is actively combating these issues to keep children in school.
Established in 1908 as an intermediate school by the colonial government, Kitui High School continues to evolve while staying true to its mission of nurturing future leaders.
The event was graced by key figures, including:
-
Jude Mawia, Parents Association Chairperson
-
John Kyalo, Board of Management (BOM) Chairman
As the ceremony concluded, one thing was clear: Kitui High School is not just preparing students for exams—it’s shaping the future of Kenya.
