Busia, Kenya: When Emmanuel Juma and his twin sister Immaculate Juma joined Our Lady of Grace Compassion primary school in Mundika, Busia County nobody knew that they would excel in their KCPE examinations and emerge among the top students not only in their school but also in the country.
The two due to challenges in fee payment among other financial hurdles they faced at home would see them in and out of school, but they still defied the odds and scored 419 marks and 402 marks respectively.
According to the director of Our lady of Grace compassion primary school in Mundika, Sr Beatrice Odinyo, was delighted that despite the myriad of challenges the two faced in their primary education due to the vulnerability of their family they still managed to be among the top candidates in the country in KCPE results released last week.
“Our candidates Emmanuel Juma and his twin sister Immaculate Juma made us proud by scoring 419 and 402 marks respectively. We journeyed with them right from baby class to standard eight and it has not been easy for them” remarked Sr. Beatrice.
Adding “To enable them to complete their primary education, as an institution we had to step in by paying their school fee and also providing accommodation at the covenant to give them ample learning environment. Their home was not conducive to allow them to continue with their education. Their parents are financially challenged to afford their education.”
She is now appealing to well-wishers to step in and help the two proceed with their high school education adding that they may not proceed with education if they do not get support.
“It is our appeal to the public; let us join hands and support the two with the little we have to enable them to continue with their secondary education in any school they will be admitted to. From the experience we have had with them, if we don’t support them they will not continue with their studies. Let the public support them to meet their dreams,” explained the Director.
The mother of the twins’ Ms. Angeline Okeyo is an unemployed mother. She has struggled to take care of the twins and she conquers with Sr. Beatrice and is calling upon well wishers to help her educate her children.
According to her, it was the support from the school management that helped the twins to complete their primary education adding that the school provided a good foundation to her children from baby class to standard eight enabling them to perform well in the recently released KCPE results.
Besides a good education foundation, the two were also given free accommodation and school fees by the administration which helped them complete their education.
Emmanuel Juma wishes to join Alliance high school and become a neurosurgeon while her sister Immaculate wishes to join Pangani high school and become a psychiatrist in the future.
