Mombasa County, Kenya: In a bid to maintain competitiveness and relevance in the tourism sector, stakeholders have been urged to prioritize the enhancement of industry standards.
Speaking at a training program held in Mombasa, Tourism Fund Board Chairman, Samson Kipkoech Some, emphasized the importance of standardization in tourism establishments to leverage the country’s vast tourism potential.
Mr. Some highlighted the need for infrastructure development and digital connectivity to bolster the overall hospitality sector, ultimately attracting more tourists to the country.
He challenged industry players to embrace innovative strategies to promote tourism and entice foreign visitors, underscoring the significance of protecting and nurturing the sector for sustainable growth.
Accompanied by Tourism Fund acting Chief Executive Officer, David Mwangi, Some urged businesses to enhance service delivery and professional competencies to cater to the evolving needs of the tourism landscape.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of investing in skills development and training programs to equip the workforce with specialized knowledge.
Recognizing tourism as a pivotal economic driver, Some stressed the imperative of maintaining international standards to drive growth and development in the sector.
Assuring stakeholders, Some affirmed the government’s commitment to the completion of the Ronald Ngala Utalii College in Kilifi County to meet the escalating demand for hospitality courses.
In tandem with these efforts, Mombasa County Trade, Tourism, and Culture Executive, Mohamed Osman, revealed plans to establish a Council on Tourism aimed at enhancing policy, infrastructure, and partnerships within the county.
Osman reiterated Mombasa’s determination to prioritize tourism, foreseeing significant economic revitalization through the council’s initiatives.
Echoing these sentiments, Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers and Caterers executive officer, Dr. Sam Ikwaye, stressed the importance of training industry players to understand sector dynamics and remain competitive.
Dr. Ikwaye emphasized the need for improved service quality and professional competence to meet the high expectations of holidaymakers, thereby enhancing their unique experiences.
With a collective focus on elevating standards and fostering collaboration, stakeholders aim to position Kenya as a premier tourism destination on both domestic and international fronts.
