Delivery of health care services in Homa Bay  County recently got a shot in the arm after Kenya Medical Training Colleges(KMTC) Board authorized  opening of two more  Medical colleges in the County.

This brings to three,  total  number of Medical Training  Colleges (MTC ) in the County.
Rachuonyo and Sindo MTCs are meant to boost  human resource and expertise on the county’s medical facilities that had faced shortage of qualified medical personnel for a long time.
Rachuonyo MTC, located at the local Sub County hospital in Kasipul, opened its doors last week during a colourful Ceremony while Sindo will be opened in September this year.

Governor Cyprian Awiti and chairman of  Kenya Medical Training Colleges Board, Prof. Philip Kaloki who unveiled the College, near Oyugis town, described it as a milestone in the campaign to reduce the health burden in the County . They later inspected the on-going works at the Sindo MTC.
“The Training colleges will only help us to bridge the Huma resource gaps but will create jobs and business opportunities,” Said Mr Awiti.
Mr Awiti said his government will allocate more land for the expansion of the mothers MTC in Homa bay and the two new colleges for expansion.
He said the County Government will sponsor the first 120 students to be enrolled at the College.
The Homa Bay MTC has a current enrolLment of 744 students and the number is not sufficient cater for the high demand of medical needs in the County.
