Nairobi, Kenya: Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko while signing a new trade agreement with Kenya Leather Development Council (KLCD) in city hall was optimistic the new leather market will create additional jobs in the already dilapidated covid-19 economy.
The Kariokor Leather Factory is set for a facelift after the Nairobi City County Government has signed a deal with the Kenya Leather Development Council.
The deal will see the market revamped with new and latest technological equipment expected to be installed to aid in the manufacture of quality shoes and other leather products.
Speaking during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the county and the KLDC, Governor Mike Sonko said that over 10,000 more jobs will be created directly and indirectly.
Previously, the Kariokor Leather Market used to house only about 1,000 traders.
“These job opportunities will be created within a span of three years and our youth will be the major beneficiaries,” said Sonko.
