Addressing the graduants Governor Sospeter Ojaamong dismissed false notion that the Insurance Industry is full of conmen and propaganda, adding that the industry continues to play a major role in the socio-economic development of the country.

“Many employees of the county have acquired insurance medical cover which is the way to go.  I am impressed with the move one of my area member of assembly from Nangina ward MCA John Obwogo has obtained National Hospital Insurance Fund for most of his people. I urge others to follow suit. My government will work closely with insurance firms in social programs. We have introduced many funds including the Education revolving fund which need to be insured,” he said.

However the Governor used the forum to defend his administration saying he spent over two years in putting structures in place and wondered why some people expected him to achieve what the national government took 50 years to realize.

According to him it is regrettable MPs have received less than 30 per cent of their CDF and Busia County has not received Sh2.4billion for the current financial year and yet its closure in two months away.

On the other side the finance Manager IRA Edward Opiayo who represented CEO Sammy Makove said the youths who acquired certificate of proficiency will be millionaires if they put the skills they acquired to proper use. He said Busia is the 23rd county for IRA to undertake the courses for its residents with a total of 2,600 agents graduating, adding that this had brought the insurance penetration ratio to 3.4.

Opiayo warned those who engaging in selling insurance without obtaining IRA license. He admitted that the industry had a few “rotten apples” that as a body they will disciplined if caught.
