Nairobi, Kenya: Helpster Charity, in partnership with CFK Africa and other organizations, recently provided free medical care to 318 residents of Kibera, one of Kenya’s largest informal settlements. This initiative is part of Helpster’s broader effort to address the healthcare gap in low-income communities across Africa and Asia. According to recent health policy reports, only about 20% of Kenyans have access to basic healthcare, highlighting the critical need for such interventions, especially in underserved areas like Kibera.

The outreach included a team of doctors, clinical officers, nurses, and pharmaceutical technologists who offered comprehensive services: dental check-ups, cardiovascular screenings, eye exams, and general health consultations. Twenty-five patients were referred to Tabitha Medical Clinic, and three to Barika Medical Centre for specialized care, including immunizations, growth monitoring, antenatal/postnatal care, ENT surgery, thyroid treatment, and child welfare.

“Our mission is to bring essential healthcare to underserved communities,” said Dr. Beatrix Atieno, Helpster’s Country Manager in Kenya. “Through technology and partnerships, we’re making vital medical care accessible where it’s needed most.”

The outreach also emphasized preventive care and education, providing guidance on nutrition, hygiene, and chronic disease management—elements often lacking in public health initiatives in densely populated informal settlements. Helpster acknowledges the crucial support of its collaborators: Heart to Heart Foundation, Child Charity Organisation, Barika Medical Centre, Family Health Dental Clinic, Kinani Medical Centre (eye clinic), Human Needs Project, and numerous volunteers.

“It’s encouraging to see so many hands working together to uplift this community,” added Dr. Atieno. “We’re not just treating illnesses; we’re restoring hope.”

Founded in 2023 by compassionate IT professionals, Helpster uses technology to connect vulnerable children and families with life-saving resources. Its platform (www.helpstercharity.org) and mobile app facilitate healthcare access for vulnerable populations in Africa and Asia. To date, Helpster’s free medical outreach has reached over 800 Kenyans, providing a lifeline to communities lacking affordable care. The Kibera outreach demonstrates the impact of collaborative action and innovation in addressing healthcare inequities.
