Nairobi, Kenya:The Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) has launched the Universal Service Fund(USF) 2023-2027 strategic plan, which aims to bridge the digital divide and extend ICT services to underserved and marginalized communities across the country through enhanced infrastructural development and equitable access initiatives.  

According to CAK director Mr David Mugonyi,the USF strategic plan is poised to empower communities and accelerate Kenya’s digital transformation by building a connected,inclusive, and digitally empowered nation.He also pointed out that the computer and internet use per household nationally, which stands at 10% and 23%, respectively, should double.  

In addition,the board chairprson,Mary Mungai,reiterated that Kenya is on an ambitious journey to the  next frontier of digital connectivity aimed at providing high speed internet for seamless service delivery  and quality life. She added that the focus is on powering many schools,hospitals,government offices and  businesses through the National ICT Master Plan.  

The Kenya Information and Communications(Amendment) Act.2009 provides for the establishment of  the Universal Service Fund which is administered and managed by Communication Authority of Kenya  and the primary objective of the fund is to facilitate the widespread availability of information and  communication technology(ICT) services across the count.
