Paul Tergat names his line-up for the office ahead of the NOCK elections

Days after throwing his hat into the ring for the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) presidency, five-time World Cross Country champion Paul Tergat has named his line-up for the office ahead of the elections set for next Month.

Tergat named the Kenya Judo Association (KJA) chairman Shadrack Maluki as his first vice president whereas Athletics Kenya (AK) chief Jackson Tuwei as the second vice president.

The Kenya Table Tennis Association (KTTA) chairman Andrew Mudibo will be the man to run for the secretary General’s post from his camp as the Tennis Kenya (TK) senior vice president will be Mudibo’s deputy.

Veteran journalist and Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) vice chairman Elyna Shiveka has been picked to run for the treasurer’s post while the Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) president John Kameta who lost to Stephen Arap Soi for the assistant treasuer’s seat post will be taking another stab for the post.

Four times Boston Maraathon champion Catherine Ndereba has opted not to defend her athletes’ representative post for committee members post.

The other candidates in Tergat’s camp seeking for one of the three committee members posts are the Kenya Shooting Federation secretary general Shuahib Vayani and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Eastern Nec representative Mureithi  Nabea.

Tergat who is also an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member failed to name candidates for the Women, male and female athletes’ representatives saying they were still consulting.

During the launch of his NOCK presidential bid slated for May 5th, Tergat a former Marathon world record holder was endorsed by nine federations.

They include Athletics Kenya (AK), Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Kenya Hockey Union (KHU), Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), Tennis Kenya (TK), Kenya Judo Association (KJA), Kenya Shooting Federation (KSF), Kenya Table Tennis Association (KTTA) and Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK).

Tergat’s line up is made mostly from the members of the interim NOCK committee appointed by Sports minister Hassan Wario after the government disbanded the umbrella Olympics body following the Rio debacle.

Notable absentees in the line up and during the launch are the interim NOCK chairman, the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) supremo Waithaka Kioni and Kenya Weightlifting Federation (KWF) secretary general John Ogolla.

The NOCK interim committee was made up of Kioni, Mudibo as secretary general, ElynaShiveka (Kenya Hockey Union), Francis Mutuku, John Kameta, Jackson Tuwei, Shadrack Maluki and John Ogolla.
