An online Data tool has been launched  by a Kenyan Organization to help track SDGs(Sustainable Development Goals) performance  Online. The tool which has been created on web platform aims at tracking and monitoring SDGs globally in line with the just concluded UN summit in New York City.

Al Kags , Founder , Open Institute , developers of the website believes that SDGs can only be achieved if citizens can be involved in implementation and monitoring of the process.”They can only get interested if they get to access information that they can consume as citizens and is relevant to them. For example this website for tracking SDGs  can help them compare the global perspective to their local areas. This platform will provide interactive data tools that would help them understand SDGs once the website is complete with relevant information. We are still at initial stages and we are working with other partners and more are invited to make it better.”He says.

The interactive site which displays all the 17 SDGs gives the viewer access to years and trends of the goals on one platform.Al Kags says the site can be used by citizens, journalists and researchers who may not have time to go through volumes of documents but they can get some information on a single platform.

According   Kevin Kavai, web developer ,”We collected data sets from UN sites and organs and World Bank, IBP among other data sources. The data we collected was curated or cleaned and then aligned against SDGs goals and respective  indicators . Then we embarked on the coding process and finally launched the site. www.sgdtracker.info.The platform  is in its initial stages (Alpha).

Benjamin Charagu   says,”The platform reflects SGDs movement to sub- National Level. To do this we had to get the global outlook to help start engaging national levels like Counties by comparing to global situations. The next level would be to interrogate various Counties on their perfomance. For Example we are closely working with Chief Karioki from Nakuru County famous for his dedication of collecting data sets for his Sub-Location .”
